Auction

Auction Coming Soon!

We’re actively in the research phase! Right now, we’re studying bat and floral adaptations linked to interspecies communication — cool stuff like how bats and flowers sense and respond to each other. Once the research and data collection are complete, the drawing will begin.

The auction will open in mid-October and remain open for one week. Profits will follow a tiered donation model, with up to 75% going directly to support SMACON’s (Small Mammal Conservation Organization) conservation efforts. Remaining funds will support future SciArt creation, public exhibitions, and outreach initiatives.

Read on to learn more about SMACON, the Numberism piece, and how the bidding will work!

Lonely Whale — A Numberism illustration by Sienna Cenere. "This is an illustration of the whale known as the 'Lonely Whale,' who sings at a higher frequency than any other baleen whale. I do not know that he is lonely. I just know that he is different, and if he weren't, we wouldn't have known he was there. To celebrate him for this, I have drawn him with the frequencies he sings in and the rhythm of his songs." — Sienna Cenere

Conservation in Action: SMACON’s Critical Work

SMACON is dedicated to protecting small and medium-sized mammals, like bats, pangolins, and rodents, that are often overlooked in mainstream conservation efforts. While iconic megafauna draw global attention and funding, smaller species face growing threats from habitat loss, hunting, and a lack of protection. SMACON is developing two field stations in Nigeria, at Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary and Obudu Plateau, to support long-term ecological research, wildfire monitoring, and small mammal conservation. These stations will serve as critical hubs for science, training, and community-based conservation. Your support helps provide the infrastructure needed to protect bats and other vulnerable species through evidence-based action on the ground.

Field stations are essential infrastructure for biodiversity science and conservation. They serve as hubs for research, long-term monitoring, and strategic conservation planning. By providing a base for fieldwork, they enable scientists to study wildlife in natural habitats, gather critical data, and test solutions that can be scaled across regions. Beyond research, field stations support training, community engagement, and coordination of conservation efforts. They also foster collaboration between scientists, governments, and local communities, making conservation more effective and grounded in science.

Featured Work

We’ll be posting more updates soon, including video footage of the process and behind-the-scenes glimpses as the piece comes to life! In the meantime, here’s an early description of our plans for the work:

Description: The original Numberism engraving will be hand-drawn entirely with numbers and equations, illustrating the intimate sensory dialogue between bat and flower, from specialized olfactory and visual receptors to the subtle signals that connect them. The drawing reflects on our dependence on the natural world, the intricate interconnections we often take for granted, and the limits of our perception. It reminds us that we perceive only a narrow fragment of a much larger, dynamic system. Through science, art, and storytelling, these hidden relationships are brought into view, inviting us to appreciate the profound interconnectedness of life, and to imagine more sustainable ways of living within it.

How bidding will work

We will be auctioning the original Numberism artwork through an off-site online fundraising platform.

You’ll be able to access the auction through a link on this page, which will take you directly to the bidding site. There, you can place your bid on the Numberism piece and check back throughout the week to track your bid.

At the close of the auction, the highest bidder will be notified and will take home a truly one-of-a-kind artwork and the very first piece created through this interdisciplinary collaboration! This piece will capture the intricate and often unseen ecological relationships that sustain life. Proceeds from the auction will directly support the Small Mammal Conservation Organization (SMACON), funding vital conservation efforts across West Africa.
